Ice Knights hit with postseason ban

The Geneseo men's ice hockey program has been banned from postseason play for this year and a women's tennis player's season has come to a close as the result of several NCAA sanctions against the athletics program stemming from a major violation of Division III financial aid rules.

SA votes down spring concert

In a tiebreaker decision, Student Association President and senior Haleema Murtaza opted not to allocate funding for a spring semester concert. The reading, which failed Wednesday night, was proposing to allocate $61,694 of SA reserves to cover $14,000 in losses from the fall concert and fund a moderately priced performer.

Temperature swings caused water breaks

Prior to the start of the semester, Putnam, Seneca and Ontario residence halls were affected by two breaks in a water main on campus likely caused by dramatic temperature swings. Humanities I to be offered in NYC

For the first time in its history, Geneseo will offer a summer section of Humanities I to take place in June in New York City. The program intends to provide students with an experience akin to studying abroad at a more affordable price. Ronald Herzman, English professor and co-director of the Edgar Fellows program, helped initiate the opportunity and said he is passionate about what it will entail for participants.

Zuckerman takes Ithaca position

Business professor Mary Ellen Zuckerman has accepted an offer to serve as the dean of Ithaca College's School of Business, reports that college's Web site. Zuckerman was dean of Geneseo's School of Business from 1999 to 2008 and was awarded the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service in 2006.

Dante's Books By David Campbell, staff writer Dante's Books, a small used bookstore, is the newest addition to Main Street in Geneseo. "We're really all about great, affordable books here," said Soren Thomas, owner and founder of the store. Dante's Books opened just over three months ago and is adjacent to Mama Mia's pizza parlor.

School of Education awards program

The Ella Cline Shear School of Education recently launched an awards program that will recognize graduates of Geneseo who have contributed meaningfully within the field of education. The first annual presentation of the Geneseo Distinguished Educators Award will take place at the Geneseo reunion celebration over the summer.
