To conquer lust, Saint Benedict threw himself into a briar patch, naked. At least, that's the story. This monkish mentality of extreme self-denial is pretty far from most college students' lines of thought. But we at Geneseo have a monastery five miles away - the Abbey of the Genesee.
"I would like to see myself … hanging out with Brad Pitt or something," junior theater major Jake Roa said of his life 20 years from now. "Maybe tossing a couple beers back with Brad." Hailing from nearby Scottsville, N.Y., Roa's second home wasn't always Brodie Hall.
The recently established Astronomy Club prides itself on making the beauty and intrigue of the sky available to every student at Geneseo. Astronomy Club is an event-based group, without weekly meetings, that was started about two years ago. Junior Pedro Rodriguez serves as the club's webmaster and "sky-eye" and was also one of the founding members of the club.
Originally from Montego Bay, Jamaica, energetic and cheery junior Kerisha Hawthorne fills Geneseo's frigid climate with a little warmth from home everyday. For this English and psychology double major, the stars were not always aligned for Hawthorne to attend Geneseo.
