Cross-country places at nationals

Men place sixth, women finish ninth in NCAA meet

Last weekend, both the Geneseo men's and women's cross-country teams competed in the national championship cross-country meet at Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio. While the men's team finished in sixth place, the women took home ninth. Geneseo, along with Williams College in Massachusetts, were the only two schools out of 32 to have both the men's and women's teams finish in the top 10.

Women's basketball wins two, falls to RIT

The women's basketball team started their season off with a bang, pulling out two wins last weekend at a tournament hosted by Mt. Aloysius College. Both Saturday's game against Lynchburg College and Sunday's versus Penn State Beaver ended with a considerable margin of victory for the Knights.

The media, as well as sports fans, often critique players and coaches who display poor sportsmanship, but rarely commend them for acting in an admirable manner on and off the field. Good sportsmanship is taught starting in little league and gym class, but is often lost somewhere on the way up to the college and professional levels.

Crew club impresses on and off the water

Geneseo's Crew Club provides a close-knit, competitive team for both men and women alike. With new head coach Lisa Cloen and a young team of 46 members showing up for the fall - more than half of which are new members or "novices" - the team said it's looking to build on its long history and lasting relationship with the community.

Men's basketball drops home opener to Hobart

Last Tuesday the Geneseo men's basketball squad dropped their home opener, losing to the Hobart Statesmen 70-54, struggling on the offensive end during the entire game. The Statesmen used a 6-0 run and later an 8-0 run in the first half to go into the second stanza leading 35-22.

Ice Knights blow past SUNY Brockport, 2-1

On Nov. 20 the Ice Knights hosted one of their biggest conference rivals, SUNY Brockport, and came away with a hard-fought 2-1 victory to improve to 4-5 on the season. Geneseo opened up the scoring early in the first period on a power-play goal by sophomore David Arduin.

Blue Wave sweeps quad meet

Two weeks ago the Geneseo men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Clinton, N.Y. for the Hamilton College quad meet and turned in some of their top performances of the season. "It was definitely our best meet of the semester and it came at a time when we were facing the best competition we've seen so far," said head coach Paul Dotterweich The men continued their winning streak as they defeated host Hamilton 133-75.
