On Tuesday, President Christopher Dahl and Vice President for Administration and Finance Ken Levison presented an overview of the college's budget at a packed All-College Meeting in Newton.
A new online textbook exchange portal organized by Student Association is being introduced to Geneseo students and is slated to debut in time for the spring semester. Dianne Krenzer, service manager for SA, has been working on the project since its inception in 2008 and has helped give the program momentum as the SA executive board has changed from year to year.
Senior Meaghan Elicks, a double theatre and English major, said that she is still contemplating the best move to make after she graduates in May. "This is a hard decision to make because it seems as though many employers would prefer a few years of work experience," Elicks said.
On Nov. 19, SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher held a Web cast press conference for members of student media organizations at SUNY colleges and universities. Zimpher spent over an hour answering students' e-mail questions, which were read by Melody Mercedes, president of the SUNY Student Assembly.
Male applicants for the Class of 2013 outnumbered female applicants to Geneseo; a shift in a long-standing trend that has resulted in lower acceptance rates for females than males in recent years. From 2005 to 2008, there were, on average, over 2,000 more female applicants than male applicants to the college.
On Nov. 18, WindTamer Turbines Corp. brought a 3.5 kilowatt silent wind turbine on campus to reveal its innovative product line to students and the community at large. "We want to make a significant contribution to reducing energy dependence on foreign sources and provide for people who need power," said William Schmitz, president of WindTamer Corp.
Computing and Information Technology is encouraging students to utilize the Virtual Lab, a resource provided by CIT that students have seldom used or even been aware of in the past. The program was implemented over a year and a half ago by the Provost Technology Advisory Committee and was funded using the Student Technology Fee.
Mark Scott, executive director of Campus Auxiliary Services, has confirmed that a newly-renovated Red Jacket Dining Hall will re-open in the spring semester. "I'm excited about students having the opportunity to go back to their dining hall," Scott said. Red Jacket was closed this semester to allow crews to complete renovation work started over the summer.
