This past Saturday was a record-setting day for the Geneseo cross-country teams as both the men and women swept the SUNYAC championships and garnered numerous awards along the way. The women's team won their 10th consecutive championship, beating out host Cortland, 34 points to 66 points.
The women's field hockey team lost their final game of the season on Saturday at William Smith College, 3-1 -- Geneseo's 12th consecutive loss against the college. Despite the loss, head coach Jessica Seren said in an e-mail that she was proud of her team.
It's always a tough decision for an NFL team to decide when to start a talented rookie quarterback. Some teams choose to make the young quarterback prove himself in training camp - whether it's his first year or somebody who spent a year or two sitting on the sidelines learning the playbook.
The Geneseo men's and women's swim teams hosted the Geneseo Invitational Tournament this past weekend, competing against Alfred University and SUNY Brockport. Both teams came away with impressive victories, effortlessly winning most events. The women's squad demolished both of their opponents on Saturday with a total of 602 points, limiting Alfred to 336 points and Brockport to only 333 points.
This past weekend the Ice Knights faced off against two difficult SUNYAC division opponents: nationally-ranked No. 1 Plattsburgh on Friday and Potsdam on Saturday. Although they lost to Plattsburgh by a final score of 4-2, Geneseo recorded its first win of the season against Potsdam, 3-2, the following day.
This past weekend marked a successful beginning to the SUNYAC playoffs for both the men's and women's soccer teams, as the men defeated Oswego in overtime, 3-2, and the women overcame Buffalo State, 2-0. The men entered the tournament with a record of 9-6-2, while the women entered at 12-4-2.
Despite having just finished her second season as a head coach, Jessica Seren knows exactly what it takes to make a successful field hockey team. Seren began her career in athletics at Gloversville High School in the Albany area where she was a multi-sport athlete.
