An audience decked out in costumes complemented last Saturday night's AHH! Capella Halloween concert in Wadsworth Auditorium, which displayed the vocal styles of Geneseo groups Exit 8, Hips n' Harmony and Southside Boys. The concert featured classic songs from each ensemble's repertoire while the groups also added a few fun, festive twists to the night.
After a semi-hiatus, Carrie Underwood returns to the forefront of country music with the release of her third album, Play On. Although there is little doubt that it will rake in lots of money in time for the holiday season, the album as a whole is fairly disappointing given Underwood's star power.
Some dancers dazzled and others fell short as the members of Geneseo's largest organization took the stage in Wadsworth Auditorium this past weekend for the Fall 2009 Orchesis Showcase. The show opened with a sharp and lively tap number titled "Grease" and was followed by a diverse array of dance types and musical selections.
Last Friday, Geneseo's Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble gave the audience a reason to postpone Halloween preparations with a concert that was both beautiful and entertaining in its diversity and skill. Their program, "Invitation to the Dance," had its share of toe-tappers, but, unlike the title may suggest, this concert was not a rendition of Saturday Night Fever.
As the creators of the axe-wielding hit video game Guitar Hero, Activision is now focusing its hero-generating powers on a different genre: dance music. Players choose mixes from well-known disc jockeys such as DJ AM and Grandmaster Flash to play on an imitation turntable controller.
Geneseo art students who studied abroad in Italy this past summer celebrated with a showcase of their work in Brodie's Bridge Gallery, which ran from Oct. 12 to Nov. 2. The exhibition, entitled "Italy, Italy: Art from the Summer '09 Geneseo Italia Program," features the artwork of Geneseo students.

On Thursday, Oct. 22, the Repertorio Español, a Spanish language theater troupe based out of New York City, presented their award-winning performance of Carmen Rivera's play "La Gringa" in the College Union Ballroom. The play, which appeared completely in Spanish with a live simultaneous English translation provided for free through wireless headsets, tells the story of María, a native New Yorker who, according to the Repertorio's Web site, "travels to Puerto Rico for the first time in search of her roots.
