Last Tuesday, a CAS committee decided that ownership of the campus store will change hands from Sundance Books to Follett. Mark Scott, executive director of Campus Auxiliary Services, explained that as Sundance's contract was up this spring, a committee was organized to consider bids from other companies.
Carol Long, dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Willamette University, will assume the position of Geneseo's provost on July 1, concluding a nationwide search that attracted over 70 applicants. Long said she became interested in Geneseo because she is "very attracted to the public liberal arts mission" and that she hopes to support and expand that mission when she arrives this summer.
Red Jacket Dining Hall and Southside Café will both be closed for the entirety of next semester, according to Mark Scott, executive director of Campus Auxiliary Services. Scott said that the entire building is in need of a mechanical renovation, especially due to concerns about the building's temperature during the warmer parts of the year.
This past weekend, Kuhl gym hosted Geneseo's annual Relay for Life, an overnight event organized by the American Cancer Society devoted to raising awareness and funding to help defeat cancer. By the end of the event, $70,854.91 was raised, though the total has risen to over $71,000 since then.
The week of April 27 marked Geneseo's second Sexual Assault Awareness Week, with events dedicated to raising awareness about sexual assault and providing outlets for creative expression and empowerment. This is only the second year that there has been an entire week devoted to sexual assault awareness.
Last Friday, the Pamela York Klainer Center for Women and Business hosted a panel discussion called "Networking with Pamela" - a lecture aimed at helping business students forge professional relationships. The panel for the discussion consisted of the center's namesake, Pamela Klainer, Geneseo class of 2008 alumna Sarah Compo, Rose Anderson of the Alumni Association and Liz Seager of Career Services.
This summer, Geneseo will host an expanded selection of course offerings along with a new "early bird" program that allows admitted students to take selected courses prior to matriculation. According to Dean Polly Radosh, the early bird program has been designed for students who have been offered admission for the fall semester or deferred admission for spring 2010.
