With the semester winding down and a long-awaited summer coming into focus, students look to finalize internship plans, locate summer jobs and fight off daydreams of moments without responsibilities. For one Geneseo student, however, the summer will take on a different air entirely.
With a fresh set of ideas backed by unbridled ambitions, junior Tom Wilder is carrying The Lamron into the 2009-2010 school year as editor-in-chief. Wilder was born and raised in Ithaca, of two '84 Geneseo alumni who fell in love as undergrads, where he attended a competitive public high school surrounded by Cornell prospects.
Have you ever wondered what that mysterious smoke stack is emanating from the horizon behind the College Union? Well together, that tower and its accompanying average-looking building regulate energy in every academic building on campus. Bill Cox, Plant Manager and Utilities Engineer Level 3, is in charge of making campus space "as comfortable as possible with the least amount of energy," he said.
Last Saturday, students gathered on the College Green to take part in World Tai Chi Day - a global event aimed at bringing people together to participate in a healthy exercise and promote unity and peace. According to professor Randy Kaplan, tai chi is an accessible physical activity with many benefits.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1995, alumna Kim Hausmann has made her fair share of home runs in New York City. After leaving small-town Geneseo, Hausmann pitched her accounting career into action as she started as an associate with Coopers and Lybrand, now more commonly known as PricewaterhouseCoopers.
On August 2, 2009, a benefit for the family of Lindsay Matthews will be held. The benefit will be from 2-7 p.m. in Oakwood Manor, 2985 Lakeview Road, Hamburg, NY. Live music will be provided by The Boys of Summer, Caitlin Koch, Sam Brenner, and Dan DiNardo.
