The Geneseo Ice Knights had an up and down weekend at home, destroying Potsdam 7-2 last Friday before falling to Plattsburgh 5-0 Saturday.
The Geneseo men's basketball team started off the season strong in their home opener against Elmira. The Blue Knights easily handled the visitors 76-53, led in scoring by seniors Scott Morton and Jeff Howe. Howe shot 12-15 from the field and had a career high 27 points, adding 15 rebounds for a solid double-double.
Last Saturday the Geneseo women's cross-country team won the Division III Atlantic Regional meet, giving them an automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Championship meet. Geneseo beat second place SUNY Cortland by a score of 64-72. Freshman Alyssa Smith came up big for the Knights with a sixth place finish overall, crossing the finish line with a time of 23:23.
This past Sunday, the NFL contest between the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals ended in a tie after both teams failed to score in the lone overtime period. The peculiar result - it was the NFL's first regular season tie since 2002 - made the league's archaic, ineffective overtime rules the center of attention yet again.
The Geneseo women's basketball team suffered a disappointing 56-55 loss against St. John Fisher last weekend in their first game of the season. Geneseo was unable to hold on to a 26-24 halftime lead as St. John Fisher made a late rally to win the game. Geneseo may have suffered an even bigger loss in the first half when star junior Khadija Campbell went down with a season-ending knee injury.
The Geneseo women's equestrian team had a successful run last weekend at their two most recent competitions, hosted by Nazareth and Geneseo at Lehman Farms in Pittsford, NY. Geneseo placed fourth overall out of 15 teams at both competitions, with three riders winning first place ribbons on Saturday and five riders claiming first place ribbons on Sunday.
