In a groundbreaking new approach to residence life, Geneseo plans to introduce two "residential college houses" that will aim to bring together student life and academic affairs. Not everyone, however, thinks all aspects of the plan are wise. The Dante House - operating from Wayne Hall - will house international students, incoming Honors Program students, and 30 other first-year students on a first-come-first-served basis next year.
The student group Fighting Against Racial Injustice is working with CAS and other campus players to bring a hairdresser to campus who is able to cut black students' hair. The need for a solution, which FARI described as "long-overdue," came to their attention as they were working on a documentary about racism on the Geneseo campus.
Nine protesters, including seven students from Binghamton University, were arrested on March 11 during an anti-war protest in Binghamton that ended in a violent confrontation with police officers. Three of the seven students were jailed and held on $500 bail.

Senior Mike Baker, the project's coordinator, developed the idea for a publication highlighting Livingston County businesses after working on a business directory for the town of Nunda.
Students, faculty members and polar bears gathered outside Erwin Hall on Tuesday evening to rally against global warming. The event - organized by the Geneseo Environmental Organization - was held to raise awareness about human dependence on oil and encourage the community to take a firmer, more proactive stance against global warming.
The Republicans enjoyed a victory in a very close race against Democratic candidates in the Geneseo Village election held on March 18, in which two Village Board seats as well as one village justice seat were available. Republican Bradley Janson claimed the village justice seat, which was vacated by John Linfoot.
New York Times photojournalist and Cambodian genocide survivor Dith Pran died of pancreatic cancer Sunday at the age of 65. In November 2005, Pran visited the Geneseo campus as part of Cultural Harmony Week. Pran, a photojournalist for the Times since 1980, survived the bloody genocide of the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s.
